RSSmeme is on hiatus. Ad revenue no longer covers the cost of running the service and I don’t have time to improve the site.
When I first created RSSmeme there was only one other similar service – ReadBurner. Then Google Reader became social and began recommending popular stories. It does a great job and I recommend anyone who was previously using RSSmeme switch to Reader.
RSSmeme had some neat features that you might not have known about:
- A language filter using the Google Language Detection API
- An API that let you slice and dice feeds
- It could show you only stories shared by your FriendFeed friends
- A FeedBurner flare to embed the number of times and article was shared on your blog
- A leaderboard
One day I hope to port RSSmeme to App Engine. But I just don’t have the time right now. On App Engine it could likely run for free. I encourage anyone with some free time to build this themselves. It’s an easy project and App Engine is fun to use.
If you have any questions you can contact me at: email@example.com. Follow my website, FriendFeed, or Facebook.
Thanks for using RSSmeme and support over the years!
